What is $mart Buy?
$mart Buy is a food-buying program run by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier (FBST). The purpose of $mart Buy is to provide high quality food at a low cost so you and your family can stretch your food dollars.
Who
can participate in $mart Buy?
Anyone! The program can be beneficial to anyone looking to stretch his or her dollars.
How does it work?
Once a month you can sign up for a food package and/or individual specials. The food list contains the larger main package costing $20.00. Two specials (usually food in five to ten pound sizes) are also available for purchase separately at an additional cost. Orders must be paid for in advance of the pick-up date (date is listed on the food list given out each month). You can call if you do not have this list. You can participate in the monthly $mart Buy program as little or as often as you please. There is no commitment to buy each month and no limit to the quantity of packages or specials you can order.
What is a package?
A package typically contains six staple foods (two meats, one cheese, a frozen food, a fruit and a vegetable). You will know what foods will be in the package ahead of time. Foods in the package vary from month to month, as will specials. You can call us to see what the current month's package or specials include.
